Barbican -Bauhaus: Art as Life

I am delighted this exhibition is opening soon at the Barbican. Bauhaus is one of the most influential currents in not only Modernist architecture and design but in art, graphic design, typography, interior and industrial design.

They are running a series of workshops and walks over the next couple of months. Get your tickets soon because some of the listings are already sold out. I really wanted to check out the workshop: On Paper Construction – if anyone has a ticket going spare please let me know!

Laser art: Swans

Leda And The Swan

By W. B. Yeats

A sudden blow: the great wings beating still
Above the staggering girl, her thighs caressed
By the dark webs, her nape caught in his bill,
He holds her helpless breast upon his breast.

How can those terrified vague fingers push
The feathered glory from her loosening thighs?
And how can body, laid in that white rush,
But feel the strange heart beating where it lies?

A shudder in the loins engenders there
The broken wall, the burning roof and tower
    And Agamemnon dead.

                        Being so caught up,

So mastered by the brute blood of the air,
Did she put on his knowledge with his power
Before the indifferent beak could let her drop?

So I am definitely loving the bird theme at the moment! I have had these planned for quite a while; I took this photo in Regent’s Park  in 2009 and have always wanted to engrave it.

These were designed as a pair; I mirrored and inverted (amongst other things!) the image for the black swan. They are 400 x 400mm on 12mm MDF backed birch veneer which gives them a really nice texture. They are hand finished and treated.

If you would like to order one or the pair please get in touch!
